Family sues delivery truck driver for causing chain reaction car accident

Swartz brandon

A federal lawsuit has been filed at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the driver of a delivery truck and his employers,

claiming the driver acted negligently when he failed to stop his vehicle in time to prevent a chain reaction car accident that resulted in injuries for a Philadelphia woman and her 10-year-old daughter.

Renee Coney, of the 6000 block of Lindbergh Blvd., claims that the driver, Anthony Donovan, drove at a high speed and did not have control of his vehicle before slamming into a car stopped at a red light, causing the next few cars to hit each other, ending with the rear of her Honda CRV. She is seeking more than $150,000 in damages from the accident.

According to the complaint, the accident occurred on Main Street in Darby on November 9, 2012. Donovan was driving a truck for his employer, Tasty Treats, Inc. when traffic stopped. The resulting collision caused Coney to suffer permanent injuries to her back and spine, plus mental anguish and loss of income due to costly medical bills. Her daughter also sustained injuries that may affect her future quality of life.

Tasty Treats Inc. has also been sued by Coney, who claims that the company is responsible for hiring Donovan and trusting him with operating the vehicle.

The plaintiff is represented by Brandon Swartz of Swartz Culleton in Newtown.

The federal case ID number is 2:14-cv-02854-MSG.
