Woman sues Wal-Mart for slip-and-fall incident

A Philadelphia woman who claims she injured herself after slipping on a puddle of water is suing the Wal-Mart store where the incident allegedly took place.

Attorney Richard L. Stutman, of the Bala Cynwyd, Pa.-based Verlin Law Offices, filed the premises liability lawsuit June 14 at the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on behalf of Kelli Adams of Northeast Philadelphia.

The defendants named in the lawsuit are Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and Wal-Mart Stores, East L.P.

According to the civil complaint, Adams was shopping at the Wal-Mart store located at 1000 East Road in Wyncote, Pa. in mid July 2009, when she suddenly slipped on a puddle of water that had originated from a leaky ceiling. The spill caused the plaintiff to suffer “severe personal injuries,” the lawsuit states.

As a result of the accident, Adams sustained traumatic chondromalacia of the right patella, chronic lumbosacral musculoligamentous injury, chronic myofascitis, and has suffered great pain and suffering, according to the complaint.

Adams has had to receive medical attention because of the accident, something that has caused her to incur various personal expenses.

The accident has also caused the plaintiff incur other financial losses, and has prevented her from carrying out her usual duties and activities, the lawsuit states.

Adams demands judgment against the defendants in a sum in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and delay damages.

The plaintiff in the suit has demanded a jury trial. The case currently awaits listing.

The case number is 110600950.
