A local couple has filed a slip-and-fall lawsuit against the Target Corp. in federal court in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia attorney Neil E. Jokelson filed the personal injury lawsuit July 28 at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on behalf of Northeast Philadelphia residents Lenore and Robert Brodsky.

According to the complaint, Lenore Brodsky was shopping at the Target store at 7400 Bustleton Avenue in Northeast Philly on Aug. 4, 2009, when she suddenly slipped on a wet and slippery substance on the floor of the store.

The fall caused Lenore to land on her head, breaking her eyeglasses in the process, the lawsuit claims.

As a further result of the incident, Lenore sustained various physical injuries including, but not limited to, a concussion, head contusion, abrasion to the right eyebrow, bilateral groin pain, and hernia requiring surgical repair, the lawsuit states.

Lenore Brodsky also suffered headaches, discomfort and mental anguish because of the accident, as well as a loss of the enjoyment of her daily duties and activities and a loss of earnings.

The incident caused Lenore Brodsky to expend various amounts of money on medical attention.

The complaint accuses Target of negligence for failing to keep the premises in a safe condition for shoppers, failing to eliminate the dangerous condition, failing to warn the plaintiff and others of the hazardous flood condition and being otherwise careless and reckless.

Lenore Brodsky demands judgment against Target in an amount in excess of $50,000.

Lenore’s husband, Robert, also has his own count in the lawsuit in which he claims he has been denied the companionship of his wife because of her injuries. Robert Brodsky also demands judgment against the defendant in a sum in excess of $50,000.

The plaintiffs have demanded a jury trial.
