A Bethlehem attorney who studied law at Philadelphia’s Temple University

and is accredited by the state Supreme Court as a Certified Elder Law Attorney was recently awarded with the Excellence in Elder Law Award from the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Elder Law Section.

Lawyer Stanley M. Vasiliadis was presented with the award during a recent ceremony in Harrisburg, according to an Aug. 14 announcement by the Bar Association.

The award recognizes Vasiliadis for his “superior professional efforts in the field of elder law, significant contributions to the legal profession and noteworthy service to the elderly,” reads a PBA news release.

Vasiliadis regularly speaks on elder law and estate planning issues, and lectures on behalf of professional and civic organizations including local bar associations, groups representing certified public accountants, bank trust departments and insurance companies, according to the PBA.

Vasiliadis has also written various articles about elder law and estate planning for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, which is the educational arm of the PBA.

The attorney most recently served as chairman of the PBA’s Elder Law Section, of which he is a past secretary and treasurer.

Vasiliadis is affiliated with the bar associations of Northampton and Lehigh Counties, as well as the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council, the Estate Planning Council of the Lehigh Valley, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Pennsylvania Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Academy of Special Needs Planners, according to the PBA.

PBA Elder Law Section members share ideas and information on substantive elder law issues to meet the needs of their clients, the PBA’s news release notes.

Members of the section also promote improvements in substantive law, legal education and ethical guidelines.

According to a biography on the website of his law firm, Vasiliadis & Associates, Vasiliadis previously served as Judge Advocate General Corps. when he was a major in the United State Army.

His current practice primarily focuses on long-term care planning, trusts and estate administration and estate planning.

Vasiliadis also handles litigation on behalf of elderly and incapacitated people at both the state and federal court levels.

Vasiliadis is active with charitable groups and civic associations such as the Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA, Rotary International and Visual Impairment and Blindness Services of Northampton County, Inc.
