An Allegheny County man claims his former employer targeted him for termination because of his age.

Frederick Mazur filed a lawsuit on Nov. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Highmark Inc., doing business as Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, claiming he was unfairly terminated because of his age.

Mazur claims he was repeatedly criticized, disciplined, and terminated despite his qualifications as a manager. Mazur alleges it was after a structural realignment within the company in 2013 when the harassment began, and he was quickly targeted because of his age. Mazur claims he was written up for unqualified reasons and was finally terminated on Oct. 2, 2014, a violation of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.

Mazur is seeking reimbursement of lost wages, lost benefits, retirement, out-of-pocket costs, liquidated and consequential damages, plus interest; plus reinstatement of former position, difference in pay between his previous and current

earnings; compensation equivalent to the additional costs of health insurance; attorney’s fees, court costs, and any such other relief as the court deems necessary. Mazur is represented by Kevin W. Tucker and Darren K. Parr of the Darren K. Parr Law Firm in Pittsburgh.
