PHILADELPHIA – A man is suing his employer following his termination, alleging that he was not compensated fairly through his severance pay agreement.
Steven S. Lakin filed a complaint on Dec. 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the General Builder's Association Inc. and Emily L. Bittenbender, alleging breach of contract and violations of Pennsylvania Wage Payment and Collection Law.
According to the complaint, at the start of his employment under the defendant in 2012, Lakin signed a contract which stated that in the event of his termination, he would receive severance pay which was equal to six months worth of salary if he was fired without cause. In April, Lakin was informed of his termination, which he claims was without cause. Lakin's work history with the company was in good condition and the plaintiff had even received a raise in the recent past. Lakin is suing the defendant for failure to deliver severance pay, as he was fired without cause and has yet to receive compensation.
Lakin is seeking compensation of $98,175, as well as attorney's fees and costs. He is represented by Julie A. Uebler of Uebler Law LLC in Wayne.
