PHILADELPHIA – An Allentown man is suing his former employer following his termination, claiming that it was related to his age.

Robert Haney, 68, filed a complaint Jan. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Intertek USA Inc., alleging violation of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

According to the claim, Haney, 67 at the time, was employed by the defendant as a research chemist and received positive performance reviews while working there. While employed, the plaintiff was asked to provide one year's notice from the date when he would retire so that a replacement could be trained, the suit states. In March, the suit says that Haney was given an assistant who was a younger female, at least 30 years younger than the plaintiff. In July, the plaintiff was told that there had been a complaint regarding alleged pornographic material on his computer and for sexually harassing co-workers. Although the suit says that the accusations were false, he was terminated shortly afterward.

Haney seeks damages for back and front pay, as well as legal fees. He is represented by Nikolaus A. Baikow of Baikow Legal LLC in Allentown.
