Hispanic woman seeks damages following alleged workplace discrimination

Discrimination

HARRISBURG – A Harrisburg woman is seeking compensation following her termination, alleging discrimination due to her national origin and race.

Maribel Rosales filed a complaint Jan. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Extendicare Health Services Inc., doing business as Stonebridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Dan Deitzel and Tammy Dalpiaz, alleging discrimination and unlawful termination.

According to the claim, Rosales was employed beginning in January 2013 as a certified nursing assistant and as the only Hispanic employee, was subject to a hostile work environment. Rosales was accused of abusing residents and suspended, but was reinstated when the accusations were not substantiated, the suit says. Between May 2013 and May 2014, she was continually accused of inappropriate actions that were unfounded, the suit states. After she was chosen as the employee of the month, the suit states that her picture was defaced. In July 2014, Rosales was allegedly fired.

Rosales seeks damages for lost wages, benefits, loss of enjoyment of life, discrimination and retaliation, as well as legal fees. She demands a jury and is represented by Lisa Matukaitis of Matukaitis Law LLC in Harrisburg.
