Mat maker sues middleman firm for alleged contract breach

HARRISBURG — A maker of mats and ramps that are placed beneath oil and gas drilling rigs is suing commercial mat and ramp manufacturer is suing another company over allegations of breaching a contract and failing to return its products.

Champagne Edition Inc. filed suit Feb. 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Motis Energy LLC, citing breach of contract.


According to the complaint, Champagne Edition Inc. entered into an arrangement on Feb. 27, 2015, to lease products to the defendant, which in turn was to lease those products out to oil drilling companies. Following a 30-day notice to cure a breach dated Jan. 19, 2016, according to the suit, the plaintiff allegedly terminated the agreement, removing any rights of possession.

The defendant has reportedly failed to return the products in violation of their agreement.

Champagne Edition Inc. seeks immediate possession of the products (mats), judgment in the amount of $1,063,651.56, interest, and a declaration that the agreement is terminated. It is represented by Scott R. Leah and Dennis R. Sheaffer of Tucker Arensberg PC, in Pittsburgh.
