PITTSBURGH — A woman is suing a former employer, claiming disability discrimination, retaliation and failure to uphold Americans with Disabilities Act regulations.

Ryan Brown filed a complaint on April 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside alleging that the former employer violated the Rehabilitation Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she has suffered and endured humiliation, financial losses, damage to her reputation, mental and emotional distress, pain and suffering. The plaintiff holds Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside responsible because the defendant allegedly suspended her telecommuting privileges, refused reasonable accommodations, failed to engage in the interactive process and retaliated against her by discharging her on or about November 30, 2011.

The plaintiff, who says she had sought accommodation for conditions including severe depression and anxiety and has been diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder, requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for damages for humiliation, pain and suffering, punitive damages, prejudgment interest, reasonable attorney’s fees and costs and such further relief as the court may deem necessary and proper. She is represented by Suzanne M. Roberts of Commerce Law Group LLC in Sewickley.
