PHILADELPHIA — A Georgia man is suing TransUnion LLC and Equifax Information Services LLC, consumer reporting agency, citing alleged unfair credit reporting and credit defamation.

Johnny L. Alexander Jr. filed a complaint on April 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the defendants alleging that they allegedly failed to comply with the requirements imposed on a consumer reporting agency.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, from April 2015 through the present, he has applied for and has been denied various loans and extensions of consumer credit on many different occasion. He has suffered actual damages in the form of credit denial or loss of credit opportunity, credit defamation and emotional distress, including anxiety, frustration, embarrassment and humiliation, the suit says. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly have been reporting derogatory and inaccurate statements and information relating to him and his credit history to third parties and mixed his credit file and that of another consumer with respect to the inaccurate information and other personal identifying information.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for statutory, actual and punitive damages, along with attorneys’ fees and costs, as well as such further relief as may be permitted by law. He is represented by Mark D. Mailman John Soumilas and Geoffrey H. Baskerville of Francis & Mailman PC in Philadelphia.
