Woman says benefits were wrongly denied

Insurance 08

PHILADELPHIA — A woman is suing Metropolitan Life Insurance Company ("Met Life"), an insurance firm, alleging that the company improperly denied her long-term disability benefits.

Louree Royal filed a complaint on June 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the insurer, alleging that it wrongly denied her application for benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that starting about Nov. 10, 2014, she became disabled but was turned down for disability benefits. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible because it allegedly upheld its denial of benefits despite the plaintiff submitting adequate proof of her claim.

The plaintiff seeks a determination that she is disabled under the terms of the plan, payment of continuing long-term disability benefits plus interest, a continuation of benefits as long as she remains disabled, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Halmon L. Banks III of Banks Law in Philadelphia.
