Couple's suit alleged recklessness by mail truck driver

Car accident 34

PHILADELPHIA — A couple's lawsuit against mail truck driver John Ford Jr. and the United States Postal Service alleges negligence in causing a vehicular collision.

Janice Verlinghieri and James Verlinghieri filed a complaint on Aug. 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the defendants, alleging that Ford failed to properly control his vehicle.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Aug. 8, 2015, Janice Verlinghieri sustained physical injuries when she was forced to swerve to avoid the mail truck and hit a third vehicle. The plaintiffs hold Ford and the Postal Service responsible because Ford allegedly operated his mail truck recklessly, causing the collision that left Janice Verlinghieri injured.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants in an amount in excess of $150,000 plus court costs, interest and any further relief the court grants. They are represented by Brandon A. Swartz and Maria K. McGinty-Ferris of Swatz Culleton PC in Newtown.
