3M Company, others face claim in alleged water contamination

PHILADELPHIA — Several plaintiffs are suing six corporations over alleged water contamination.

Hanah Bates; Michael S. Bridges; Ann Marie Kuter; Kelley Liott; Lynda Mills, as parent and natural guardian of S.M., a minor; Jennifer Rock; and Carolyn Sippel, individually, have filed a class action lawsuit against the 3M Company (f/k/a Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co.); Angus Fire; The Ansul Company; Buckeye Fire Protection Company; Chemguard; and National Foam, citing alleged product liability.

The plaintiffs filed a complaint on Sept. 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, alleging that the defendants manufactured defective products and sold them to consumers.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that they suffered damages due to the contamination of water. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly knew about the potential health risk of Surfactant-laden AFFF but chose not to disclose this information from the consumers.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and ask the court to order the defendants to implement a testing protocol to test wells, install permanent filtration devices on each private well testing positive for the presence of certain contaminants, establish a medical monitoring protocol for the plaintiffs, take all necessary steps to remediate the property and residences of plaintiffs, compensatory, exemplary, and consequential damages plus interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants.

They are represented by John M. Broaddus of Weitz & Luxenberg in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
