Woman alleges Hartford Life wrongfully terminated disability benefits

Insurance 10

PHILADELPHIA – A Wilkes-Barre woman alleges her long-term disability benefits were wrongfully terminated.

Carol Shillabeer filed a complaint on Oct. 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against The Hartford Life Insurance Co. alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she became disabled due to rheumatological conditions and was initially being paid disability benefits until benefits were terminated in 2015. The plaintiff holds The Hartford Life Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated plaintiff's disability benefits despite her still being disabled according to the terms of the plan.

The plaintiff seeks order the defendant to award full payment of plaintiff's long-term disability benefits, court costs, interest and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Marc Snyder of Rosen, Moss, Snyder & Bleefeld LLP in Jenkintown.
