JEVS Human Services accused of violating wage laws

Law money 08

PHILADELPHIA -- Two people have filed a class action lawsuit against JEVS Human Services Inc. and Jewish Employment & Vocational Service Inc., doing business as JEVS Human Services, alleging failure to pay minimum wage, failure to pay overtime compensation, breach of contract and unjust enrichment.

Pamela Pendleton and Vernon Costin filed a complaint on Dec. 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the defendants, alleging the companies failed to fairly compensate them for their work.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege they suffered damages from not being paid properly per federal and state law. Pendleton and Costin hold the defendants responsible for allegedly not treating direct service workers as employees.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek an injunction against the defendants, back pay, compensatory damages, punitive damages, interest, court costs and any further relief this court grants. They are represented by Stephanie J. Mensing of Mensing Law LLC in Philadelphia and Claude I. Schoenberg and Kay Sickles of Schoenberg Law Office in Bala Cynwyd.
