Valley Hotel accused of breaking wage law

HARRISBURG — Then-U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez recently filed a lawsuit against Valley Hotel Inc. d/b/a Valley Hotel and Thomas E. Smith, citing alleged unpaid wages, violation of applicable minimum wage law and violation of Workers' Compensation acts.

Perez filed a complaint on Jan. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against the defendants, alleging that they failed to provide fair compensation to their employees.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs alleges damages on behalf of employees that were not properly paid for their work. The plaintiffs holds Valley Hotel Inc and Smith responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to pay their employees properly hours worked in excess of 40 per week.

The plaintiff seeks to enjoin and restrain the defendant, unpaid back wages,liquidated damages equal to the total back wages, and any further relief this court grants. They are represented by Elaine M. Abdoveis of U.S. Department of Labor in Philadelphia.
