PHILADELPHIA — H&R Block is suing James Shedrick, a former employee, citing alleged breach of contract for operating a similar tax preparation service.

H&R Block Eastern Enterprises Inc. filed a complaint on Feb. 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Shedrick alleging that the former employee violated several agreements with the plaintiff after employment.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it sustained damages to its business from losing potential clients. The plaintiff holds Shedrick responsible because the defendant allegedly operated an office that provided similar services as the plaintiff's and solicited business using client lists from his former employer, among other violations of his contract.

The plaintiff seeks to order the defendant to return any property or information currently in his possession, damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. It is represented by Katharine Thomas Batista of Jackson Lewis P.C. in Philadelphia.
