Care worker claims she was fired after blowing whistle on deplorable conditions

Wrongful term 02

PITTSBURGH — A former care worker is suing Heart II Heart LLC, a home care provider for people with disabilities, citing alleged retaliation and wrongful termination.

Jamel Williams of Verona filed a complaint on Dec. 14 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Heart II Heart alleging that the employer terminated the plaintiff's employment for reporting health concerns and wrongdoing to the director's action line for Allegheny County human services. Among the wrongdoing she reported was employees using alcohol and drugs around very ill clients, deplorable bathroom conditions in clients' homes and lack of food provided to clients.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was terminated from her employment for reporting the wrongdoings of her employer. Williams holds Heart II Heart responsible because it allegedly retaliated against her by terminating her employment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks front and back pay, punitive damages, interest, compensatory damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Kayla Drum of Kraemer, Manes & Associates LLC in Pittsburgh.
