PHILADELPHIA — A former security worker is suing Community Education Centers Inc., citing alleged retaliation and violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Damika Clement filed a complaint on April 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania alleging that the employer interfered with plaintiff's FMLA rights.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, in 2015, she was terminated from her employment for taking time off from work due to a serious health condition. The plaintiff holds Community Education Centers responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated plaintiff's employment due to her absences, which she claims should have been protected by the FMLA.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation for the firing, punitive damages, damages, court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Manali Arora of Swartz Swidler LLC in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
