Wisconsin woman says Reliance Standard Life denied disability claim despite evidence

Insurance 07

PHILADELPHIA — A Wisconsin woman is suing Reliance Standard Life Insurance Company, citing alleged breach of contract for denying her appeals for disability benefits.

Kristy M. Keller-Smith filed a complaint on April 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania alleging that the Philadelphia insurance company refused to pay plaintiff's claims for benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, in 2009, she applied for benefits and was approved until they were terminated on June 30, 2014. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible because it allegedly continued to deny plaintiff's appeal challenging the termination of her disability benefits, despite what plaintiff claims is adequate evidence in her favor.

The plaintiff seeks damages, interest, benefits owed, court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by F. Michael Friedman of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
