Woman who was followed home and beaten says Liberty Life Assurance wrongly stopped disability benefits

Insurance 09

PITTSBURGH — A woman is suing Liberty Life Assurance Company of Boston, citing alleged breach of contract for wrongly cutting off her disability benefits.

Myra L. Hinson filed a complaint on April 4 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania alleging that the insurance company refused to pay benefits entitled to the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff, who was employed at Sheetz Inc. as a salesperson, alleges that, in 2015, she was unable to continue working due to the injuries she sustained when an attacker followed her home and assaulted her. The plaintiff holds Liberty Life Assurance responsible because it allegedly denied the plaintiff's disability benefits based on its claim that she no longer met the definition of disabled under the policy as of September 2016, which the plaintiff asserts is erroneous.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds the jurisdictional limits of this court, plus court costs and interest. She is represented by Max Petrunya of Robert Peirce & Associates P.C. in Pittsburgh.
