Woman claims TriNet, MetLife erred in insurance payout between her, brother's widow

PITTSBURGH — An individual is suing Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and TriNet Group Inc., alleging breach of contract and breach of duty.

Swathi Gaddam filed a complaint on May 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against the defendants claiming that she was unfairly made to settle a dispute with MetLife regarding her late brother's life insurance policy and how much of the payout was to go to her versus her brother's widow.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was damaged from having been forced to settle with MetLife and for having TriNet Group, which handled human resources for her late brother's place of work, filing an erroneous claim with MetLife. The plaintiff holds MetLife and TriNet Group responsible because they allegedly erroneously executed the life insurance claim.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in the amount of $142,500 plus interest and court costs. She is represented by John Newborg of Pittsburgh.
