Lackawaxen couple sue Johnson & Johnson, Ethicon over mesh treatment

Medical malpractice 05

SCRANTON — A husband and wife are suing Johnson & Johnson, and Ethicon Inc., alleging design defects, negligence and product liability.

Robert Mead and Patricia Mead, of Lackawaxen, filed a complaint on May 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against the defendants alleging that they manufactured a defective composite mesh for hernia treatment.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that Robert Mead sustained serious physical injuries as the result of using the defendants' mesh. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to warn the plaintiff regarding the potential harmful effects of using their flexible composite mesh.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory damages, interest, restitution and disgorgement of profits, court costs, economic damages, punitive damages and any further relief this court grants. They are represented by Carrie R. Capouellez of Lopez McHugh LLP in Moorestown, New Jersey.
