PHILADELPHIA – A Bethlehem consumer alleges that a Soleus Air dehumidifier he purchased damaged his home when it caught fire.

James Crosson filed a complaint on July 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Gree Electric Appliances Inc., Gree Electric Appliances Sales LTD, Gree USA Inc. and MJC America LTD alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff sustained fire damages to his real and personal property on March 22, 2016, because of a malfunction of a dehumidifier manufactured or sold by the defendants. The suit states that the same month, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced it had reached an agreement with the defendants for failing to report a defect and unreasonable risk of serious injury with dehumidifiers it sold.

The plaintiff holds Gree and MJC America responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently designed, manufactured, tested, inspected and distributed the defective humidifiers.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount of more than $100,000, punitive damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. He is represented by Joseph L. McGlynn of de Luca Levine LLC in Blue Bell.
