Former Leeds employee alleges she was terminated for taking FMLA leaves

Wrongful term 08

ERIE – An Allegheny County woman alleges her New Kensington employer terminated her for taking a medical leave.

Heather Shreves filed a complaint on July 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Leeds alleging violation of the Family Medical Leave Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she terminated from employment with the defendant in April for going on two FMLA leaves to take care of her mother, who needed surgeries.

The plaintiff holds Leeds responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated plaintiff's employment in retaliation for obtaining FMLA benefits.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant for economic and liquidated damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Martell Harris and Danielle Parks of Kraemer, Manes & Associates LLC in Pittsburgh.
