Keystone Rural Health Center patient claims root canal procedure injured nerves

SCRANTON – A Myersville, Maryland, woman alleges she was injured during a dental procedure.

Mary M. Black filed a complaint on Aug. 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against United States of America citing the Federal Tort Claims Act.

According to the complaint, the defendant operates the Keystone Rural Health Center through the Department of Health and Human Services in Chambersburg. The plaintiff alleges she had a root canal done at the center on Oct. 9, 2013, and that sodium hypochlorite was injected into adjacent tissues, which caused facial nerve injuries and permanent facial disfigurement.

The plaintiff seeks compensatory damages, future medical expenses, and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Philip S. Cosentino of Diloreto, Consentino & Bolinger PC in Chambersburg.
