Man seeks long-term disability benefits from Liberty Life Assurance Co. of Boston

Insurance 02

PHILADELPHIA – A Warminster individual claims that his claim for long-term disability benefits was unlawfully denied.

John Parker filed a complaint on Aug. 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Liberty Life Assurance Co. of Boston alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was employed by Target Corp. and injured his right shoulder rotator cuff while working in July 2015. The injury needed surgery, the suit states, and the plaintiff received short-term disability benefits from July 2015 to December 2015. He alleges in January 2016, the defendant wrongfully denied long-term disability benefits.

The plaintiff holds Liberty Life Assurance Co. of Boston responsible because the defendant's denial of the long-term disability benefits lacked any reasonable, factual or medical basis.

The plaintiff seeks damages, interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. He is represented by William H. Bishop IV of Bishop, Dorfman, Kroupa & Bishop PC in Philadelphia.
