MEDIA — A former Delaware County inmate alleges his civil rights were violated after being attacked by other inmates.

Ahmirh Northern filed a complaint Aug. 19 in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas against Delaware County, doing business as George Hill Correctional Facility, Correct Care Solutions LLC/Wellpath LLC and others alleging negligence and civil rights violations.

Northern, according to his complaint was an inmate at George W. Hill Correctional Facility on Oct. 12, 2021. He claims he was in solitary confinement due to an altercation he had with other inmates.

Northern alleges that while waiting outside the cell to be transferred, a correctional officer improperly opened the cells of the same inmates who were involved in the altercation and who were unhandcuffed. He claims the inmates then attacked him, stomped on him and kicked and punched him repeatedly. Northern claims the standard procedure for the facility was for every inmate in solitary confinement to be handcuffed as they exited their cell and that the defendants failed to protect him or give him proper medical care.

Northern seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, interest and all other just relief. He is represented by David Berlin and Matthew Weisberg of Weisberg Law in Morton and Gary Schafkopf of Schafkopf Law LLC in Bala Cynwyd.
