Williamsport's female recreation director alleges she was paid less than men, treated differently too

WILLIAMSPORT - The one-time director of Williamsport's Recreation Department alleges she was paid less than men who held the position previously and was fired without cause.

Kayla Drummond has lodged a lawsuit March 13 against the City of Williamsport for alleged sexual discrimination. The case was filed in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania on March 13.

Drummond claims that she faced discrimination during her tenure as the Director of Recreation at the city's Recreation Department. She served two interim terms before Mayor Derek Slaughter gave her the full-time position in March 2020.

She alleges that she was paid less than the two previous directors. excluded from meetings and was not treated equally by other department heads. Furthermore, Drummond states that she was referred to as "the Black girl that walked around City Hall."

The complaint also accuses Mayor Slaughter of attending recreation department events only if assured of media presence and disregarding Drummond's recommendations regarding recreational events.

The complaint makes a claim for sex discrimination. It was filed by Williamsport lawyer Michale Zicolello of Schemery Zicolello.
