Louis t. silverman

A Philadelphia man alleges in a recently filed complaint that he sustained head injuries

after be struck by a falling ceiling vent at the post-prison reentry facility at which he was living at the time.

Philadelphia attorneys Louis Silverman and Michael Lalli, of the firm Silverman, Trotman & Schneider, filed suit Oct. 24 at the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on behalf of city resident Ronald Taylor, who claims he was injured on Nov. 6, 2011, while using a restroom at the Joseph E. Coleman Education and Treatment Center located at 3950 D Street in Philadelphia.

The center and its parent organizations, Community Education Centers Inc. and Community Corrections Corp., are all named as defendants in the personal injury claim.

The lawsuit claims that Coleman, who was a resident at the treatment facility at the time, became injured after a metal vent fell from the ceiling in the bathroom and struck him on the head.

As a result of the incident, the suit claims, Taylor sustained injuries to his head, back, neck, shoulder, arm, wrist, elbow and nervous system.

Taylor also suffered “significant pain and suffering,” anguish, inconvenience, loss of life’s pleasures, lost earnings and/or earning capacity and scarring and disfigurement, the complaint alleges.

Taylor was also compelled to spend various sums of money on medical attention.

The lawsuit accuses the defendants of negligence for allowing a dangerous and hazardous condition to exist on the premises, failing to provide safe and sturdy ceilings for those who reside at the center, and failing to ensure that all objects affixed to the ceilings were securely fastened.

The suit contains negligence counts against all defendants.

Taylor seeks more than $50,000 in damages, plus attorney’s fees, costs and expenditures, sums, delay damages, pre-and-post-judgment interest and other court relief.
