A Philadelphia County woman is suing over claims thyroid surgery led to a severed vocal cord.
Anglade Ilmo filed a lawsuit Feb. 26 in the Philadelphia County Circuit Court against James J. Kearney M.D., Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Hospital, citing professional liability.
According to the complaint, on July 27, 2012, Ilmo underwent a left thyroid lobectomy by Dr. Kearney, employed by Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Hospital, during which her left recurrent laryngeal nerve was severed, resulting in the need for a permanent tracheotomy and a paralyzed vocal cord.
Ilmo is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. She is being represented in the case by attorneys Nadeem A. Bezar and Mitchell J. Shore of Kolsby Gordon Robin Shore & Bezar.
