Man alleges Lewistown police officers used excessive force

HARRISBURG - A Lewistown man is suing five local police officers, alleging they violated his constitutional rights.

Lucas Shafranich, of Lewistown filed a lawsuit July 6 in against Lewistown Borough police officers Gregory Stottle, Lucas Butler and three unnamed officers, alleging assault, battery and false imprisonment.

According to the filing, on July 7, 2013, the officers arrived at Shafranich's home to assist emergency medical personnel who were called to treat the plaintiff who was suffering from a medical emergency.

The suit says the plaintiff was tasered twice by Butler after he attempted to stand up and he received a total of four taser shots before being transported to the emergency room for medical treatment.

Shafranich was charged with aggravated assault and harassment. The suit states other officers present failed to intervene and stop excessive force from being used.

Shafranich seeks an unspecified amount of damages, attorney fees and court costs. He is represented by attorney Matthew Owens of Harrisburg.
