A woman is suing her former employer, alleging she was fired after being bullied for her disabilities.

Lauren Burns filed a lawsuit Oct. 13 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania District against LMG Family Practice of Lansdale, alleging it violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the complaint, Burns was hired as a medical assistant in 2010, and LMG was aware of her disabilities. The suit says Burns was hospitalized and unable to work for one week in March 2014, and was told by a fellow employee her hospitalization was discussed by a others, including supervisors, at work.

The lawsuit states Burns complained to management and was then berated by the defendant, which she alleges led to her needing to take a break. The suit says Burns was soon fired for taking the needed medical break.

The plaintiff alleges this action violated her rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Burns seeks back pay, front pay, salary, insurance, promotions, reinstatement and seniority from the company, as well as punitive damages, compensation for emotional distress and pain and suffering, plus legal costs and expenses. She is represented by attorney Ari R. Karpf of Karpf, Karpf and Cerutti in Bensalem.
