PHILADELPHIA — A former membership sales representative for a Golds Gym in York County, Pennsylvania is suing the establishment, claiming the gym's management would not consider him or any other men for the sales director position.

Grayson Wood filed a class-action lawsuit against Golds Gym South York; KWK, Inc.;  Kurt J. Krieger; and Nick Degenhardt on Sept. 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania citing a violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

When Wood expressed interest in applying for the sales director position at the gym, Degenhardt allegedly told him in writing that he did not have “tits or a [vagina],’’ which were the “real requirements" for the job.

The lawsuit states that the sales director hired by Golds Gym in October 2014 was a female. Wood filed a timely charge with the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission and on Aug. 3 was issued a Right to Sue Letter.

Wood is seeking back pay and front pay as relief from the discrimination allegedly suffered, as well as damages and all costs related to the suit. In addition, he wants an injunction against the gym prohibiting future discriminatory actions. Wood is being represented by Jason T. Brown of JTB Law Group, LLC in Jersey City, New Jersey.
