PHILADELPHIA – A Haverford dentist is suing the dental practice that she worked for, alleging that she was terminated due to her age.

Dr. Mikele L. Boyle filed a complaint on Aug. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Penn Dental Medicine, trustees of the University of Pennsylvania, Peter B. Kauderwood and Denis F. Kinane, citing violations of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act and the Federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

According to the complaint, Boyle was a qualified and respected dentist with Penn Dental for many years, and in the 13 years of practice she was responsible for more than 40,000 patients. Although she never received any complaints in years prior, Boyle alleges that Kinane and Kauderwood created a "scheme" in 2012 involving false accusations of fraud and malpractice in order to terminate her, the complaint states. She is suing Penn Dental purporting that the discrimination received was unlawful, as was her 2013 termination.

Boyle seeks compensation for all losses, damages and legal expenses. She is represented by Lisa A. Lori, Carianne P. Torrissi and Carl L. Engel of Klehr, Harrison, Harvey, Branzburg LLP in Philadelphia.
