PITTSBURGH – A nurse's assistance is suing a contractor and an equipment manufacturer alleging that she was injured due to equipment negligence.
Dawn Prunty Rice filed a complaint on Dec. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against ArjoHuntleigh Inc. and Hi-Def Contracting, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, Rice was employed by VA Pittsburgh Health Care System as a nurse's assistant and had a number of responsibilities, including assisting with patients. On Dec. 6, 2013, while she was using a mechanical device provided by Arjo Huntleigh and installed by Hi-Def Contracting to move a patient who weighed more than 250 pounds, the device allegedly broke. Rice attempted to help the patient by catching him, but instead only caused injury to herself, the complaint states.
Rice is seeking compensation for all injuries received and legal fees. She is represented by John A. Adamczyk of Adamczyk Law Offices in Pittsburgh.
