HARRISBURG - A woman is suing an insurer and plan administrator, claiming they did not properly cover her medical expenses as stated in her health insurance policy.

Sarah H. Book filed a lawsuit on Feb. 15 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Highmark Blue Shield and Noah W. Kreider & Sons LLP, claiming violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

Book claims she was in an automobile accident on October 8, 2014, and began receiving treatment for injuries incurred, treatment which she claims should have been covered by her husband's insurance policy provided by Highmark. Book alleges the company refused to cover medically necessary surgery and are therefore infringing upon her ability to lead a healthy fulfilling life.

Book is seeking benefits as stated under the plan, attorney's fees and costs, as well as any other relief the Court sees fit. Book is represented by David L. Lutz of Handler, Henning, & Rosenberg, LLP in Harrisburg.
