PITTSBURGH — A woman who worked as a truck driver is suing a former employer over claims of gender discrimination that allegedly culminated in harassment and wrongful termination.
Tameisha L. Wilson filed a lawsuit on March 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Diamond Head Trucking Co., citing violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act (PHRA).
According to the complaint, Wilson was employed by the defendant from September 2012 through Feb. 4, 2015, working as a driver. The plaintiff claims that during her employment, she was subjected to discriminatory treatment in the workplace on account of her gender and was wrongfully terminated as a result of the discrimination.
The plaintiff reports that supervisors sexually harassed her, coworkers stole items out of her truck, and she was ridiculed in front of coworkers. In late January 2015, Wilson claims that she reported stolen items to her supervisor, who allegedly ignored the situation until Feb. 4, when he gave her a bag of garbage instead of her belongings. The plaintiff avers that she asked for her items again and was fired on the spot. She claims that the male employee who was responsible for the theft was not disciplined.
Wilson seeks all remedies under Title VII and the PHRA, including attorney’s fees and costs. She is represented by Michael J. Bruzzese of Bruzzese & Temple, in Pittsburgh.
