Woman says insurer wrongly denied benefits

Insurance 02

PHILADELPHIA — A woman is suing Hartford Life and Accident Insurance Company, claiming she was improperly denied long-term disability benefits.

Deyrdra Boatwright filed a complaint on July 1 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the defendant, alleging that the insurer violated the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2014 she underwent surgery due to multiple brain aneurysms, which made her disabled. The plaintiff says the defendant improperly denied her long-term disability benefits due to the findings to two doctors without conducting its own review to determine whether she was disabled.

The plaintiff seeks disability benefits, interest, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Joseph Capitan of Martin LLC in Philadelphia.
