PHILADELPHIA — A 72-year-old Army veteran is suing the United States, alleging that insufficient health care  measures were taken to prevent the amputation of both his legs below the knee.

Douglas Pierson filed a complaint on June 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against the United States, alleging that the Department of Veterans Affairs failed to provide proper medical care to the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he sustained serious physical injuries. Pierson holds the United States negligent and liable because the defendant allegedly failed to monitor and treat the plaintiff's kidney stones.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant for $20 million plus court costs. He is represented by Richard L. Frankel of Bross & Frankel, P.A. in Cherry Hill, N.J..
