PHILADELPHIA – A former employee for real estate investment companies alleges she was terminated in retaliation for her complaints about not being paid overtime.
Joy Holmquist filed a complaint on Aug. 24 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against EZ Homes LLC, Easy Homes PA LLC, et al. citing the Pennsylvania Minimum Wage Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff began working for the defendants in May 2014 and regularly worked more than 40 hours per week. She alleges she was terminated on July 31 in retaliation for her complaints about not being paid overtime
The plaintiff holds EZ Homes LLC, Easy Homes PA LLC, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to pay her at a rate of time-and-one-half for all overtime work and unlawfully denied her employee benefits.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensation, benefits, actual damages, punitive and liquidated damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. She is represented by Christine E. Burke and Ari R. Karpf of Karpf, Karpf & Cerutti PC in Bensalem.
