ERIE – A Grove City man he was provided with confusing and inaccurate information regarding the refill of a prescription he was given after having stents placed.

Jack Strawbridge filed a complaint on Aug. 18 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against United States of America alleging that the government agency failed to provide proper medical care to the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff received primary care at VA Butler Healthcare and in April 2016, had two stents placed in his left leg to treat occluded blood vessels. He alleges he was prescribed Plavix to prevent the formation of new blood clots and used the VA automated telephone prescription refill to obtain his prescription.

The suit states that the plaintiff called the prescription refill number on Oct. 3, 2016, and was "incorrectly and negligently advised that the prescription was no longer available." He alleges he understood that to mean he no longer required the prescription, when the prescription had actually been transferred. He alleges that because he ran out of Plavix, his stents became occluded and required further surgeries.

The plaintiff holds United States of America responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to follow up on the plaintiff's prescription and provided confusing and inaccurate information regarding the refill.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. He is represented by Craig L. Fishman of Shenderovich Shenderovich & Fishman PC in Pittsburgh.
