SCRANTON - A Connecticut woman is seeking damages after a fatal airplane crash.
Sharon Weller, individually and as personal representative of Gary Weller, DDS, filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Scranton Division, July 10 against Textron Inc., Avco Corp. and Lycoming Engines, alleging negligence.
According to the complaint, Gary Weller was killed in a crash involving a Mooney M20M aircraft shortly after takeoff from an airport in Massachusetts in October 2015. The suit states the crash was caused by the failure of the aircraft's engine "caused by a fractured crankshaft designed, manufactured, installed and serviced by the defendants." The suit states the engine was overhauled at the Textron Lycoming Repair Station in Williamsport in 2001.
The plaintiff holds Textron Inc., Avco Corp. and Lycoming Engines responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly test and inspect the engine and its components.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants, interest and court costs. She is represented by Clifford A. Rieders of Rieders Travis Humphrey Waters & Dohrmann in Williamsport.
