PHILADELPHIA – Lake Harmony residents allege that a malfunctioning dehumidifier caused a fire at their property.

Timothy Conte and Pamela Marshall filed a complaint on March 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Sears Roebuck and Co. and Electrolux Home Products Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Sept. 12, 2017, Timothy Conte and Pamela Marshall sustained fire damages to their property as the result of a dehumidifier malfunctioning. The suit states the defendants designed, manufactured and/or sold the dehumidifier.

The plaintiffs hold Sears Roebuck and Co. and Electrolux Home Products Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly inspect and/or test the product and its parts to ensure it was safe to use.

The plaintiffs seek judgment against the defendants for damages in an amount of more than $75,000 plus interest, delay damages, punitive damages, court costs and any further relief the court grants. They are represented by Joseph L. McGlynn of de Luca Levine LLC in Blue Bell.
