SCRANTON — A motorist is suing the Lackawanna County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Chas Valenza, Chief Deputy Jim Boland and Lackawanna County for alleged assault and battery.

Brighid Bauer filed a complaint on an unknown date in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, alleging that the defendants violated the Fourth, Eighth and 14th Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she was arrested for allegedly disobeying a traffic officer on Aug. 9, 2016. She claims that she suffered injuries to her neck and shoulder and continues to suffer emotional distress because Valenza allegedly stopped her, grabbed her arm and forcefully pulled her out of her vehicle. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for Valenza's alleged conduct.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount that exceeds $75,000, plus any other relief that is deemed just and proper. She is represented by Gary Schhafkopf of Schhafkopf Law LLC in Bala Cynwyd and Matthew Weisberg of Weisberg Law in Morton.
