John Petersen filed a complaint May 9 in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, claiming that the defendants breached their duties to provide medical care and treatment within the applicable standard of care.

According to the complaint, Petersen was allegedly injured in a car crash on Jan. 11, 2017 and was taken to Forbes Hospital for treatment. The plaintiff alleges that he suffered a massive stroke as a result of the defendants' negligence and that the stroke resulted in life-changing injuries, disability and loss of gainful employment.

The plaintiff claims the defendants negligently failed to use image guidance to assist in the placement of a screw during surgery and failed to recognize an injury to his vertebral artery following the surgery.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, plus interest, costs of tthe lawsuit and any other additional relief. He is represented by Matthew Doebler of Pribanic & Pribanic LLC in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
