Former employee challenges his firing by Hanover Township

A former Hanover Township employee is suing the township and five of its policymakers, alleging he was terminated without reason.

Albert Broody filed a lawsuit June 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Hanover Township and commissioners Albert Bagusky, Jeffrey Lewis, George Bowers, William Howatt and Michael Mazur, alleging wrongful termination due to violation of county and federal law.

According to the complaint, Broody served as the duly appointed code enforcement officer of the township from 1981 until he was terminated in February. The suit says Broody's termination violated the terms set forth in Hanover Township Code as he was fired without just cause and without any prior notice, as well as being denied the opportunity to be heard on the specific charges. Additionally, the suit states Broody's termination violated his guaranteed right to due process under the 14th Amendment.

The plaintiff alleges he suffered great economic losses, emotional distress, humiliation and damage to his reputation.

Broody seeks compensatory and punitive damages, costs of suit and attorney fees and other relief deemed appropriate by the court. He is represented by attorney Frank J. Tunis Jr. of Wright & Reihner in Scranton.

U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania case number: 3:15-cv-01216-UN3.
