After a more than three-week long trial, jurors last Friday returned a plaintiff’s verdict in the case of a woman suing a nursing home and other medical institutions for the alleged poor care her late father received.

The 12-member jury in the case of Williams vs. Willow Terrace et al awarded the plaintiff more than $2 million in compensatory damages, according to Pete Giglione, one of three Wilkes & McHugh attorneys who represented plaintiff Camay Williams.

The judgment related to the treatment of Williams’ father, Marcel Mackey, Sr., a North Philadelphia man who developed pressure ulcers that eventually led to his death.

Williams was suing on behalf of her late father’s estate.

The $2,287,000 verdict came on the third full day of deliberations; the jury actually began meeting after closing arguments ended Aug. 9.

The verdict was against defendants Albert Einstein Healthcare Network and Philadelphia-based nursing home Willow Terrace, Giglione said.

The other defendants in the case were St. Agnes Continuing Care and Methodist Hospital.

Giglione said the verdict included punitive damages against the two negligent parties, however, particulars weren’t immediately available. Giglione said Judge Ricardo Jackson set a hearing on the issue of punitive damages for this Tuesday.

Giglione declined to comment on the verdict at length, saying his firm would rather wait to make a statement until after the punitive damages are decided.
