Chester County’s former chief law enforcer is planning to start a new position with an area law firm.

The county’s former district attorney, Joseph W. Carroll, will join the law firm of Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel as of counsel on April 23, according to posts on the firm’s social media pages and local news reports.

Carroll, who served as Chester County’s top prosecutor for a decade before deciding not to run for re-election in last year’s race, will be based out of the law firm’s Berwyn, Pa. office, the Legal Intelligencer reported, citing a news release given to local media by the law firm.

In his new position, Carroll will focus on white-collar crime, corporate investigation and regulatory compliance.

In the news release, Carroll stated that he feels “truly energized” about the pending move to the firm.

“As the chief law enforcement officer for Chester County, I made the final decisions about the use of search warrants, wiretaps, grand juries and other investigative techniques in major cases,” Carroll stated. “My experience combined with Obermayer’s experience and sophistication in their investigative and regulatory practice area is a natural fit.”

Obermayer, which was founded in 1904, is headquartered in Philadelphia and has offices throughout Pennsylvania, including in Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Altoona and Berwyn, as well as in Cherry Hill, N.J., Wilmington, Del., and two affiliated offices in Denver and New York City.

The firm currently employs more than 125 attorneys who work in various practice areas, including, but not limited to, family law, corporate law, litigation, medical malpractice defense, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, public finance, tax law, trusts and estates, negligence and product liability, and government relations.

After announcing he would not seek re-election, Carroll was replaced by Republican Tom Hogan, a former federal prosecutor and assistant district attorney, who won the Chester County District Attorney’s race last November, beating out the Democratic candidate, West Chester trial lawyer Samuel C. Stretton.
